## Common rejection reasons

### Mirror image from a smartphone selfie

The 2023 Ministry of Interior rule revision explicitly bans mirror images. Smartphone selfie previews are horizontally flipped by default, and applicants were submitting these flipped photos.

What to do: Disable mirror/auto-flip in your phone's camera settings before taking the photo, or use our tool which always outputs the non-mirrored version.

### Digital retouching or beauty filter

The Ministry of Interior bans all digital modifications, retouching, and beautification. The regulation text explicitly says 相片不得修改 (photo must not be edited).

What to do: Turn off all beauty filters in your camera app. Use the native camera, not Snow, Meitu, or any beauty-mode app.

### Wearing glasses

Glasses are not accepted on Taiwan ID card photos. The regulation explicitly bans tinted lenses (有色眼鏡) and in practice the household registration office rejects framed glasses too.

What to do: Remove your glasses before taking the photo.

### Photo older than 2 years

The regulation requires the photo to have been taken within the last 2 years (最近二年內所拍攝).

What to do: Take a new photo if your most recent one is more than 2 years old.

### Hair covering ears, eyebrows, or eyes

Both ears must be visible and hair must not cover the eyebrows or eyes. The only exception is for microtia (small-ear) patients.

What to do: Tuck hair behind your ears. Pull bangs back if they cover the eyebrows.

### Smiling or mouth open

Expression must be neutral with mouth closed. Smiling with teeth showing is explicitly listed as a rejection reason.

What to do: Practice a neutral expression in the mirror. Keep lips together and relaxed.
